Nigella seeds (black cumin seeds) are hard, black and taste slightly bitter like cress. They have both a strong peppery taste, but also a light sweetness that gives them a special charm. The scent is immediately reminiscent of the sprinkling on Turkish bread and testifies to the long tradition of the use of the small seed in the Middle East.
