Matcha tea is a traditional Japanese green tea, used in the Japanese tea ceremony where both the preparation and enjoyment of the tea are highly valued. This tea is made from the leaves of the first harvest – also known as “1st flush”.

By shielding the tea leaves from direct sunlight, the chlorophyll content is concentrated, giving the tea its characteristic jade-green colour. The steamed and dried leaves are then stone-ground into a fine powder. The taste is delicate and round, and the aroma fresh.

This organic matcha originates from Uji, near Kyoto in Japan. Suitable for tea, smoothies, ice cream and ceremonial use.

How to prepare a perfect cup of matcha:

• Warm the bowl with a little hot water and dry it.
• Sift 2 scoops with a small bamboo spoon (about half a teaspoon) into the bowl.
• Add 150–200 ml of hot water (75–80°C).
• Whisk for about one minute with a bamboo whisk – first quickly, then more slowly to close the air bubbles in the foam.

Storage:

Cool and dry. Reseal the bag after opening and keep refrigerated.
